Users can configure OPC Expert Archive to run as a Windows Service. This enables OPC Expert Archive to automatically start with Windows (after a restart), and it can run without anyone logged on to the computer (no Interactive User). Follow steps below:
- After setting up an archive, refer to tab "Archive", and to menu option (Tools > Run as Service)
- In dialog box "User Account Picker", select either "System" account or specific user account, click button "OK", and note:
- If connecting to a remote OPC DA (OPC Classic DCOM) server, OPC Expert Archive typically runs as a specific user account
- Otherwise, if connecting to an OPC UA server (local or remote), or if connecting to local OPC DA (OPC Classic DCOM) server, OPC Expert Archive typically runs as "System" account
After following steps above, OPC Expert will setup OPC Expert Archive Server as a Windows Service, and Task Manager will show as such 
Users can now close OPC Expert GUI and OPC Expert Archive Server will continue archiving automatically. As above, note the following:
- Windows will automatically start service "OPC Expert Archive Server" when computer restarts
- OPC Expert will automatically begin capturing and storing data without requiring a Windows login (no Interactive User needed)
- If anyone kills service "OPC Expert Archive Server", Windows will automatically restart it
