OPC Expert’s Dynamic License enables users to change computer hardware instantaneously, automatically, without contacting OPC Expert personnel, and without any additional fees (money). To do this, OPC Expert needs Internet access either directly or indirectly (via an OPC Expert License Proxy, which is free).

Option 1 of 4 (above): OPC Expert (on a computer with Internet access) receives a license from website
Option 2 of 4 (above): OPC Expert (on a computer without Internet access) receives a license from website via one OPC Expert License Proxy
Option 3 of 4 (above): OPC Expert (on a computer without Internet access) receives a license from website via multiple OPC Expert License Proxies.
Option 4 of 4 (above): Multiple OPC Experts (on computers without Internet access) receive their license from website via multiple OPC Expert License Proxies.

Internet connection requirements:

  • OPC Expert Activation remains valid as long as OPC Expert connects to OPC Expert website (directly or via proxy), at least once per week
  • OPC Expert Activation does not require a constant Internet connection
  • OPC Expert activation automatically recovers after prolonged network outages

OPC Expert License Proxy technical specifications:

  • Users can cascade OPC Expert License Proxies to form a chain linking OPC Expert on one network to the Internet for the purpose of obtaining Dynamic Licenses
  • Internet access is only necessary one hour per week since OPC Expert retries the connection on a regular basis
  • To enable a license “pull” (opens one port)
    • Port: 59443
    • Protocol: HTTPS
    • URL: https://localhost:59443/license*
  • To enable a license “push”, there is no need to open ports
  • Users can “pull” license information from one proxy and “push” to another proxy
  • Connect directly to OPC Expert website
    • Port: 443
    • Protocol: HTTPS
    • URL:
      • https://www.opcexpert.com/activation*
      • https://www.opcexpert.com:443/activation*
  • Transfer license information to another OPC Expert License Proxy
    • Transfer supports DMZ architecture
    • There is no limit on the number of OPC Expert License Proxies
    • Each OPC Expert License Proxy can send information to multiple proxies
    • Each OPC Expert License Proxy can receive information from multiple proxies

 

Setting up OPC Expert License Proxy:

  • In OPC Expert’s main menu, select (Tools > Dynamic License Proxy)
  • OPC Expert License Proxies that “pull” (receive) data do not need to be aware of other proxies and now need to be setup as a service (below)
  • Configuration for each OPC Expert License Proxy needing to “push” (send) data
    • In “Add client” dialog box, enter the hostname (computer name) of the computer to which OPC Expert License Proxy will be pushing (sending) data and click button “OK” (note, if this OPC Expert License Proxy only receives data, click button “Cancel”)
    • Repeat previous step for each computer to which this OPC Expert License Proxy will be pushing (sending) data
    • If this OPC Expert License Proxy is to send data to OPC Expert’s website, check “www.opcexpert.com”
  • In OPC Expert License Proxy main menu, select (Service > Install)
  • Task Manager now shows “OPC Expert Licensing Proxy” running as a Windows service

 

OPC Expert License Proxy configuration is now complete and users can close all OPC Expert windows. OPC Expert License Proxy is setup as a Windows Service and will automatically start with Windows without requiring a user logon.
