OPC Expert enables users to setup an OPC tunnel enabling OPC communication across different Windows workgroups and domains, as well as most network security appliances like firewalls. Below is an illustration of a typical OPC tunnel architecture:

To setup OPC Expert tunnel, follow procedure below:

Refer to OPC server computer (computer running source OPC server, which is the data source)
- Ensure firewall port 57888 is open (available)
- Start OPC Expert
Refer to OPC client computer (computer running destination OPC client software)
- In OPC Expert, right-click "Entire Network" and select option "Add computer"
- Enter name (or IP address) of computer with OPC server (computer running OPC server) and click button "OK"
- Right-click OPC server computer (added above) and select option "Import OPC servers"
- In dialog box "Import OPC servers from computer", a list of available OPC servers on Server computer appears. Select which OPC servers to import, or simply press, button "OK" to import all OPC servers. Note users can also select OPC A&E (OPC Alarms and Events servers) and OPC HDA (Historical Data Access Servers.
- After completing above steps, you will see two new OPC servers on your local computer. These two OPC servers are Mimics of the remote OPC server. Note these two OPC servers have a label showing their source computer.

Tunneling is now complete and users can expand these OPC servers to see data arriving from remote OPC servers!
